• Entire workbooks    Select Entire workbook. You can publish an entire workbook with interactivity in the Publish dialog box, but not without interactivity.
• Entire worksheets    Select Items on Sheetname, and then select All contents of Sheetname.
• Items    Select Items on Sheetname, and then select the item you want to publish, such as a PivotTable report (PivotTable report: An interactive, crosstabulated Excel report that summarizes and analyzes data, such as database records, from various sources, including ones that are external to Excel.) or a chart. • Ranges of cells    Select Range of cells and then, if the selection box does not contain the range you want, click the worksheet (the dialog box will collapse to a selection box), select a range of cells from the Microsoft Excel workbook, and then click Expand Dialog .
• Charts    Select Items on Sheetname, and then select Chart x.
• Filtered ranges    Select Items on Sheetname, and then select the AutoFilter item you want to publish.
• External data ranges    Select Items on Sheetname, and then select the Query item you want to publish.
• Republishing    To republish a worksheet or item that you have already published, select Previously published items and then select the worksheet or item you want to republish.   Can Data Breaches Be Expected From Bankrupt Mortgage Lenders?

  The stock market is in a tumult. Actually, it has been for about a year, ever since the subprime fiasco (anyone take a look at Moody’s performance over the past year?) Now that that particular issue has been beaten to death, other mortgage related issues are cropping up. Most of the stuff covered in the media is financial in nature, but some of those mortgage related issues do concern information security.

  It’s no secret that there are plenty of companies in the US that discard sensitive documents by dumping them unceremoniously: leave it by the curb, drive it to a dumpster, heave it over the walls of abandoned property, and other assorted mind boggling insecure practices. In fact, MSNBC has an article on this issue, and names numerous bankrupt mortgage companies whose borrowers’ records were found in dumpsters and recycling centers. The information on those documents include credit card numbers and SSNs, as well as addresses, names, and other information needed to secure a mortgage.

  Since the companies have filed for bankruptcy and are no more, the potential victims involved have no legal recourse, and are left to fend for themselves. In a way, it makes sense that companies that have filed for bankruptcy are behaving this way. (Not that I’m saying this is proper procedure.) For starters, if a company does wrong, one goes after the company; however, the company has filed for bankruptcy, it is no more, so there’s no one to “go after.” In light of the company status, this means that the actual person remaining behind to dispose of things, be they desks or credit applications, can opt to do whatever he feels like. He could shred the applications. He could dump them nearby. He could walk away and let the building’s owner take care of them. What does he care? It’s not as if he’s gonna get fired. The pre-set computer-controlled air-to-fuel ratio could be more economical–but it’s not. The exhaust could be reprocessed to contribute to mileage (there are patents on that)–but it’s not. Cars could be using a better carburetor design–but they’re not because the patent for a 100 MPG carburetor was bought and buried years ago. Cars could be running completely on water fuel–but they’re not because those patents were also bought and then buried along with the inventor (however, the patents ran out recently!). Even the hybrids that Big Auto is selling at luxury car prices don’t optimize gasoline combustion and consumption.

  I’ve been reading a few forums and blogs about Google Adsense tips lately, and thought it would be helpful to consolidate as many as possible in one place without the comments. I’ve also thrown in a few tips of my own. We start out with some of the basic general stuff and move to the more specific topics later on.

  Build an Empire?

  When you’re deciding to become a website publisher you will fall into one of two broad categories:

  • Publish 100 websites that each earn $1 a day profit
  • Publish 1 website that earns $100 a day profit

  The reality of it is, most people end up somewhere in between. Having 100 websites leaves you with maintenance, management and content issues. Having one website leaves you open to all sort of fluctuations (search engines algorithm’s, market trends, etc). You can adapt your plan on the way, but you’ll have an easier time if you start out going in the direction of where you want to end up.

  General or Niche

  You can build your website around general topics or niche ones. Generally speaking niche websites work better with adsense. First off the ad targeting is much better. Secondly as you have a narrow focus your writing naturally becomes more expert in nature. Hopefully this makes you more authority in your field.

  If this is your first try at building an adsense website, make it about something you enjoy. It will make the process much easier and less painful to accomplish. You should however make sure that your topic has enough of an ad inventory and the payout is at a level you are comfortable with.
